MiraDry is a treatment for underarm sweating that uses microwave technology to target and eliminate sweat glands. The procedure is minimally invasive and generally considered safe, but there are a few risks. Some common side effects include:
In rare cases, patients may experience more serious side effects such as skin burns, nerve damage, or changes in sensation; however, the Skin Technique team has never experienced these severe side effects.
Before you arrive at your appointment, we ask that you shave your armpits at least 4-6 days before the procedure.
Some localized soreness or swelling will occur and typically clears within a few weeks. Some patients have short-term altered sensation in the skin of their underarms or upper arms, which gradually disappears.
Most patients can return to normal activities or work right after the procedure and typically resume exercise within a week. Common and minor side effects of miraDry® include underarm swelling, redness, and tenderness for the first seven days, but will gradually dissipate.
Performed in an outpatient setting, miraDry® treatments usually take about an hour to complete. A local anesthetic is used during the treatment to numb the area, and then the miraDry® device is placed over the armpit.
