Rosacea

Rosacea Treatment in Vancouver

Rosacea is a skin condition where there is persistent facial redness, visible blood vessels or for some people pimples. Like many skin conditions, rosacea can also cause a variety of emotional anxieties from embarrassment to low self-esteem.

At Skin Technique we want to have our patients feeling like the best version of themselves. Luckily, we have two unique treatments to help with Rosacea.

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a common skin condition that affects millions of people around the world. While it can occur at any age, it is most commonly seen in middle-aged adults. Rosacea typically begins with the appearance of redness on the cheeks, nose, or forehead. The redness may come and go at first, but it eventually becomes permanent. Other common symptoms of rosacea include small bumps and pimples, inflammation, and thickening of the skin.

What Causes Rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic and often progressive disorder that primarily affects the face. The exact cause of rosacea is unknown, but it is thought to be due to a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Rosacea tends to run in families, indicating that there may be a genetic predisposition for the condition.

Environmental factors that may contribute to rosacea include exposure to sunlight, wind, temperature extremes, and emotional stress. Rosacea can also be triggered by certain foods, beverages, and skincare products. Common triggers include alcohol, spicy food, hot drinks, and caffeine.

Fair-skinned people who have a family history of the condition may be more likely to develop it. There is no cure for rosacea, but there are treatments that can help to control the symptoms.

Rosacea FAQ

How Long Does It Take for Rosacea Treatment to Work?

Topical medications and oral antibiotics typically take 4-8 weeks to start working. However, it can take up to 12 weeks for the full effects to be realized. Laser therapy usually requires multiple sessions before results are visible. However, many people report significant improvements after just one or two treatments. Ultimately, the length of time it takes for rosacea treatment to work will vary from person to person. But with patience and perseverance, most people are able to find a treatment that works for them.

What are the Signs and Symptoms of Rosacea?

  • Facial redness.
  • Rashes.
  • Visible blood vessels.
  • Skin thickening.
  • Eye irritation.

Are there any ways to prevent Rosacea from developing?

Since the root cause of rosacea is unknown, preventing the condition is impossible. However, you can reduce the risk of having a rosacea flare-up by avoiding things in your environment that trigger symptoms. You can also reduce rosacea’s appearance by seeking treatments from the Skin Technique team.

What can cause Rosacea flare-ups?

Some causes of rosacea flare-ups include:

  • Hot drinks or spicy foods.
  • Alcoholic beverages.
  • Extreme changes in temperature.
  • Prolonged exposure to the sun or wind.
  • Stress.
  • Exercise.
  • Drugs that dilate blood vessels, such as blood pressure medications.

Which skincare products help with Rosacea?

To help prevent rosacea flare-ups and treat your skin, you should look for skin care products that:

  • Are fragrance-free.
  • Have no irritating ingredients like glycolic acid or lactic acid.
  • Have calming ingredients like aloe vera, green tea, chamomile, oatmeal, or licorice root extract.
  • Have antibacterial properties.
  • Are oil-free, prioritizing water-based hydration over harsh chemicals

What role do laser and light therapies play in Rosacea treatment?

Laser and light therapies can reduce or eliminate blood vessels that cause the appearance of rosacea. To reduce thickening skin, the Skin Technique team utilizes laser resurfacing, which can also reduce redness.

What are the Different Types of Rosacea?

  • Papulopustular, characterized by pus-filled blemishes and red, swollen bumps.
