Understanding Different Types Of Microneedling Treatments
Skin Technique is committed to providing the most advanced skincare treatments to help our clients enhance their natural beauty. Among our most popular services is microneedling, a minimally invasive procedure that helps to revitalize skin and reveal a more youthful appearance.
With different types of microneedling and microneedling devices available, it’s important to understand the features and benefits of each method. This article explores the various microneedling methods we offer at Skin Technique to help you choose the best treatment for your goals.
What Is a Microneedling Treatment?
As the skin heals, the body replaces surface skin cells and produces collagen and elastin, which give the skin a fuller, firmer appearance. This process results in smooth, glowing skin.
Skin Concerns Microneedling Addresses
There are many different reasons people may choose to pursue microneedling treatment. Whether you simply want to appear more fresh-faced or have more significant goals for your skin, microneedling can help address a range of skin concerns.
- Acne scars: Promotes skin healing and collagen production, diminishing acne scars
- Fine lines and wrinkles: Stimulates elastin and collagen, which plump and firm the skin, helping minimize fine lines and wrinkles
- Hyperpigmentation: Breaks down hyperpigmented areas and encourages the growth of new, healthy skin, evening out skin tone
- Uneven texture: Smooths out rough patches and promotes a more uniform complexion, improving skin texture
- Pore size: Reduces the appearance of pores through the production of collagen and elastin
- Stretch marks: Improves skin texture, minimizing the appearance of stretch marks
What Are the Different Types of Microneedling That Skin Technique Offers?
Before deciding on a microneedling method, explore your options and book a consultation with one of our microneedling experts. We can help you choose the best treatment for your skin concerns and goals. Here’s a brief overview of the different types of microneedling at our Vancouver clinic.
Traditional Microneedling
Traditional microneedling uses a device equipped with fine needles to pierce the skin in targeted areas. As one of the most cost-effective options for skin rejuvenation, traditional microneedling offers many benefits:
- Boosts collagen and elastin production
- Diminishes acne, acne scars, and various other scars
- Enhances skin texture and tone
- Revitalizes facial skin
- Minimizes the appearance of pores
- Targets fine lines, wrinkles, and stretch marks
- Improves absorption of cosmetic products

Microneedling With PRP
Microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) also uses precise needles but incorporates PRP derived from your own blood. PRP contains growth factors that accelerate the skin’s healing process and boost collagen production. Benefits of this “vampire facial,” as it’s known, include:
- Enhances collagen and elastin production
- Reduces acne, acne scars, and other types of scarring
- Improves skin texture and appearance
- Rejuvenates facial skin
- Reduces the appearance of pores
- Addresses fine lines, wrinkles, and stretch marks
- Assists in cosmetic product absorption

Microneedling With Radiofrequency
Microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) uses fine needles to create micro-injuries in the skin, similar to traditional microneedling. However, this treatment also delivers radiofrequency energy through the needles, heating the tissue to enhance collagen production. This dual-action approach results in tighter skin, improved texture, and a more youthful appearance.
At Skin Technique, our IntensifⓇ microneedling with RF and Morhpeus8 treatment offers unique benefits:
- Increases collagen and elastin production, resulting in firmer, tighter skin
- Diminishes textural irregularities, including acne scars, enlarged pores, and uneven texture
- Heats the deeper layers of the skin, promoting tissue tightening and reducing laxity
- Treats a variety of skin concerns on the face and body, such as stretch marks and pigmentation issues
- Has little to no downtime

Is Microneedling Effective?
No matter which type of microneedling treatment you choose, you can expect noticeable improvements after just a few sessions. Most clients experience the most visible results after several months as collagen and elastin production continues to enhance skin firmness and texture.
Results may vary based on the type of microneedling treatment and individual skin conditions. For the best results, work with your clinician to design a treatment plan that meets your individual goals.

Preparing for Treatment
Before treatment, you can prepare for the session by following a few simple guidelines designed to produce the best results with minimal discomfort:
- Avoid sun exposure before your session. Ultraviolet light may damage the skin and make it more susceptible to irritation. Wear a hat and sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher if you plan to spend time outdoors in the days and weeks leading up to your treatment.
- Avoid Retin-A products 5 hours before your treatment.
- Refrain from exfoliating skin in the few days prior.
- Cleanse your skin of any makeup, dirt, and oil before treatment so as not to interfere with the microneedling device.
- Arrive at your appointment well-hydrated.
- If you are experiencing acne, eczema, or cold sores just before your treatment, contact Skin Technique to inquire about rescheduling your appointment.
- Optionally, you can use numbing cream at home or at clinic (an hour prior to appointment) before treatment to minimize discomfort.
After your treatment concludes, follow our post-care instructions for optimal healing and results.
