How Fractional Laser Resurfacing Works

The HALO hybrid fractional laser combines ablative and non-ablative wavelengths delivered to the same microscopic treatment zone to maximize clinical results and minimize downtimes. In plain terms, it uses lasers to activate the bodies healing and collagen-producing systems in the skin along a closely targeted path. This compels fresh, younger skin to develop in the targeted area. HALO is safe and effective, while providing an enhanced patient experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a good candidate for fractional resurfacing?

Our treatment is perfectly safe for most people and most skin types. It is also effective for both men and women who want to make changes to their skin. The flexible device used to create the frequencies can be angled to target most areas of the body. The face and chest area as well as the hands and forearms can be treated.

How does fractional resurfacing work on problem areas?

Certain spots of redness and uneven tones that appear on the skin are a result of unexpected damage or stress. These spots may also be identifiable by calluses or other unpleasant textures that developed because of scraping or burns.

Fractional resurfacing works by burning a tiny column into the skin. This activates healing mechanisms that tell the body that the entire nearby problem area needs to be healed with new skin. As a result, the body replaces unsightly skin that was ignored before.

What is a fractional laser resurfacing appointment like?

There are two parts to the treatment. First, there will be a short numbing period where a proprietary medical grade topical cream is applied to the treatment area and given time to take effect. After that you will be able to sit down and relax while the laser does its work. The numbing medicine is usually sufficient to prevent any discomfort, but some patients report a mild stinging sensation.

After the treatment has ended, you’ll feel some sensitivity and the treated area will appear flushed and perhaps a little swollen. Don’t worry, as this will soon wear off. You’ll be given a few care instructions to protect your results and you’ll be ready to go.

How long does each appointment last?

Between the check-in, the numbing and the procedure itself, it is wise to plan for about a two hour visit. Most visits will not take that long.

How long is the recovery period?

If you want to go back to work immediately, you can do so as long as you take some steps to protect your skin from bright sunlight. You may experience some puffiness and redness, but taking recovery time is completely up to you if you have a busy schedule.

How many visits will it take for me to see results?

Our laser is a combination of the old ablative and non-ablative models, and the mixture of CO2 and Erbium lasers means that it takes fewer treatments than in the past to solve most issues. With this modern device, one treatment is going to be effective for most problems. Two treatments may be recommended for certain problems.

Are the effects permanent?

Depending on what is being treated, the effects can be permanent. Some spots may be the result of genetic information or permanent spots, so they can reassert themselves after a certain amount of time. In most cases, you’ll enjoy results for 5 years and possibly more.

How do I begin fractional resurfacing treatments?

You can send a message to our clinic to learn more about fractional laser resurfacing. After scheduling a consultation, you’ll be able to speak to a skin care expert about the treatment and whether or not you’re a good candidate.
